HAMMERFALL Members Visit Bas Rutten's Elite MMA; Video Available
May 3, 2010Drummer Anders Johansson and guitarist Oscar Dronjak of Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL visited Bas Rutten's Elite MMA on a day off (March 27) during the band's latest U.S. tour.
Following an afternoon workout with mixed martial arts class instructor James Singler, Johansson and Dronjak had a few hours of rest before they performed a 90-minute set with three encores at the House Of Blues in Hollywood.
States Dronjak: "We were both quite nervous since we really had no idea what we were going to have to do, and obviously didn't want to get hurt doing it. The first thing we saw upon getting there was an advanced muy-thai class in the next room, where someone with a busted nose was bleeding all over the mat but still continued to do pushups…"
A three-minute video clip of their visit — shot and edited by Rick Lee — can be viewed below (courtesy of FightMagazine.com).
HAMMERFALL's latest album, "No Sacrifice, No Victory", was released in Europe in February 2009 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded in part at Andy La Rocque's (KING DIAMOND) Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden and includes an instrumental written by the group's latest addition, guitarist Pontus Norgren (THE POODLES, TALISMAN, GREAT KING RAT),as well as a song entitled "One of a Kind", which was composed as a collaboration between HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak and IN FLAMES axeman Jesper Strömblad (who was a member of HAMMERFALL in the band's earliest incarnation). The cover artwork was created by Sam Didier, while Thomas Ewerhard was responsible for the CD layout.
